On August 28, 1963, more than 200,000 Americans gathered in Washington, D.C., for a political rally known as the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The march was organized by a number of civil rights and religious groups, the event was designed to shed light on the political and social challenges African Americans continued to face across the country.

The march was a key moment and event that perpetuated the Civil Rights Movement. The march was also where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. A. Phillip Randolph was the chair for the march and he had first made a proposal for a march like this back in 1941. President Kennedy showed little enthusiasm in the march and thought that it was going to result in mass violence. The march was a success and the day was a joyous day that gave so much pride to the movement.
